Preview "Voiceless" -- a Movie about Engaging the Culture

The movie "Voiceless" is slated to appear in theaters October 7. If the theology is good (for example, if it doesn't promote Arminian freewill theology), then it may be an excellent film, as it is about Christianity, fighting training, and cultural reformation. According to the synopsis, "It addresses the spirit of retreat as it pertains to engaging the culture that has developed within the Church."

Learn more about the movie here. Here's the full synopsis:
Jesse Dean is a recently discharged soldier who had a rough upbringing, but because of his wife, found God and now is totally devoted to his faith.
He and wife move to Philadelphia so he can take a new job as an outreach leader at an old church whose membership has been declining. As everything is going well and as he starts connecting to the community, he discovers there's an abortion clinic directly across the street from the church.
He goes to the pastor and to several others in the church and tries to get their help to no avail. One day something tragic and personal happens to him while he's going about his everyday routine. He comes to the point that he begins to take action himself. He gets involved but the more involved he gets, the more resistance he gets from those in church and community. His wife, who thinks his actions will get him fired or land him in jail, also comes against him.
Finally, it comes down to him having to make a choice: is he going to take the easy way out and back off, which is what everyone wants him to do, or will he face a major confrontation which will require him to put everything on the line…not just his job, but his freedom and marriage as well.
This film encourages people to stand up for what they know is right, particularly as it pertains to taking God's truths into society to address social issues. It addresses the spirit of retreat as it pertains to engaging the culture that has developed within the Church.

Watch the Trailer and the Opening Scene of "Beyond the Mask"

A new movie titled "Beyond the Mask" - slated for an April 6 release - looks very interesting. Here is the movie description from the website:
Double crossed and on the run, an assassin for the British East India Company seeks to redeem his past by thwarting a plot against a young nation's hope for freedom.
The leading mercenary for the British East India Company, Will Reynolds has just been double-crossed and now is on the run in the American Colonies. Working to redeem his name and win back the affections of the woman with whom he's never been fully truthful, Will now hides behind a new mask in hopes of thwarting his former employer. As his past life closes in on him, Will must somehow gain the trust and the help of his beloved Charlotte - as well as Ben Franklin - while he races against time to defuse a plot of historical proportions. Coming to theaters Spring, 2015, Beyond the Mask is a revolutionary new family film that brings history to life in a faith-filled adventure celebrating grace, liberty, and the true freedom that can only be found in Christ.
Having not seen the movie, I can't comment about whether it is tainted by bad theology (such as Arminianism). However, from what I know so far, the theology looks pretty good, as seen in these comments from the director, Chad Burns:
“Ultimately, the deepest theme is about where we find the basis for our identity … all of us want to have value and we tie that to something, and very often in the west we tie that to our performance,” Chad told TheBlaze. “And there’s a fundamental idea within the Christian faith that, ultimately, our own performance is never going to be good enough … it’s through Christ’s finished work that we find our value.” (source: The Blaze)

Preview and Interview about "Return to the Hiding Place"

Not sure either way how solid the theology is in this movie, but it looks very interesting. It is about the young Dutch men and women in World War 2 who resisted the Nazi occupation and saved hundreds of lives.

For an interesting discussion of the movie, listen to Kevin Swanson's interview with the producers, Dr. Peter Spencer and Petra Pierce.

New Album "Hero" Slated for December 27 Release

HERO is a compilation of musical works by Gabriel Hudelson which will, God willing, be available for download as mp3s from resoundingmusic.com, beginning December 27th.

HERO is an album of legends; a chronicle of journeys and of those who take them; musical tales of overwhelming odds, imminent danger, stubborn courage, and final victory; a point of departure for flights of imagination set for destinations unknown.

HERO invites the listener to take a daring trip; to set forth boldly through treacherous terrain and against insurmountable odds; to fight, to die, and to conquer. It is a journey fraught with turmoil but founded on hope, knowing that the just God Who reigns over all will be victorious in the end. It is a journey which roams from the wild west to the wild oceans, from city streets to ancient citadels.

It is the journey of heroes.

"In this groundbreaking book, experienced cinematographer, writer, and animator Isaac Botkin prepares Christians for successful Christ-honoring leadership as writers, directors, and producers. Botkin has worked as both a Hollywood outsider and an insider, and is a leading proponent of a new independent film industry. In Outside Hollywood, he smashes the myth of methodological and cultural neutrality and offers a paradigm for developing a family-friendly approach to this hugely important field of cultural influence.

"Readers will benefit from his insights on the proper training and qualifications and the history and future of the Hollywood industry, as well as the key to courageous script writing, and the responsibilities of professional directing. Several appendices explain ways to get the most out of modern equipment, how to avoid the common mistakes of new filmmakers, and more."

A Review of Kirk Cameron's "Monumental"

by Pat Necerato

To say I’m extremely excited about the message in this documentary is an understatement. I thought it was phenomenal.

For a couple reasons…

For one, the historical content was fantastic. The whole explanation of the “National Monument to the Forefathers” (or Pilgrim Monument) given by Dr. Marshall Foster revealed the biblical significance of each little detail in chilling explanation. (The Pilgrims engraved such things as Freedom, Tyranny Overthrown, Peace, Morality, Prophet, Evangelist, Law, Justice, Mercy, Education and Faith-the foundation of it all- with a sculpted figure to represent each one. Foster interpreted how each one related to their quest for a free society ruled by God. Amazing!)

A perfect picture of what a small group of people can do when they trust the Lord and persevere.

Two, (and why I’m jacked about this film for any other reason,) is the biblical worldview and underlying theology that Kirk expresses throughout.

The worldview conveyed in this film is highly optimistic to say the least. Say goodbye to the “get me outta here gospel of retreat” for sure. Say goodbye to “God’s law isn’t relevant for society anymore”. Say goodbye to the misunderstanding of “separation of church and state”. Whew…tough but important topics and misconceptions that have attributed greatly (in my opinion) to America’s moral, spiritual, and financial downfall over the years. (“But who cares about the world anyway, right? It’s a sinking ship.” Not in this documentary.)

I thank the Lord for Kirk’s boldness in sharing the ever so unpopular message of Christ ruling over all of life; family, civil, and personal (and everything in between), where His law is the ultimate standard and nothing else.

With all that said…I highly recommend that you make the time to see this film this weekend and support this work:

If America (and the world for that matter) can grasp the Kingship of Christ in the way that Kirk presented in this film, I believe God will do what He did through all of history when His remnant of people were faithful – give major victory against all odds and adversaries.
