Should Christians Publicly Stand Against Obamacare? YES! Here Are 7 Reasons Why

by Pat Necerato

Well, here we are, Christians sitting as frogs in the proverbial pot of boiling water. And now after years of seeing the bubbles, we're finally starting to believe and feel the heat. Will we finally leap out into the fight, or continue to get cooked in boiling apathy?

Rather than discuss the role of Christians in politics, that all things are inherently religious, when/why we should exercise civil disobedience or debate about theological escapism verses engaging the culture with biblical solutions to the world's problems, I will instead focus on an area I think we can all agree on (or at least most of us): sinning against God and our obligation to avoid it.

With that said, here are 7 reasons why I believe that all Christians, pastors and preachers must publicly stand against Obamacare (or otherwise engage in willful sin against God):

I think there is a typo near the bottom of one page. 15 billion should be 15 trillion. Right?

Thank you for posting this. This is helpful, but it'd be even more helpful if the author provided scripture references to the biblical principles that he states.

As a UK citizen where healthcare is free for all, I'm not getting the opposition to helping those in need. Surely that is one of the main messages taught in the Bible? Would those opposed to the healthcare bill happily see the child of a low paid worker die of cancer because their parents can't afford medical insurance? At the end of the day, that's what you're opposing - and all for the sake of a few bucks in tax, which most people could afford.

Brian,
"Healthcare" is not free for all. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

It is paid for not only by taxation and inflation (all of which hurt the poor either directly or indirectly, and also which wreck the economy), but by state expansion (with its concomitant, state tyranny), disincentives for medical advancement (with its concomitant, poor medical treatment), outrageous waiting periods, death panels, etc.

Opposing state run healthcare is not opposed to the teaching of the Bible, it is in fact harmonious with it. http://theonomyresources.blogspot.com/2010/06/download-bible-opposes-socialism-by.html

One way that socialists try to dupe people is by knocking down a straw man, by arguing that if one opposes state run healthcare for the poor, one opposes helping the poor.

This is not the case, and in fact, on net balance, state run healthcare hurts the poor even more than free market healthcare (for reasons mentioned earlier).

The state might offer "free" food for the poor as well, but if that food is poisoned, then it is not very compassionate.
