After his close friend, U.S. Congressman Lawrence Patton McDonald, was killed when the commercial airliner over the Sea of Japan was shot down (Sept. 1983), Joe Morecraft preached McDonald's funeral service in Atlanta. He was urged by those who heard the sermon to run for McDonald's seat, which he did in 1986 during President Ronald Reagan's second term. Here is a commercial President Reagan made for Morecraft.
