Voddie Baucham's concept of "ethnic gnosticism" explains adequately why the response to the panelist's comments went viral.
I also agree with Baucham's historical argument in favor of classicism, but that is not exactly a theological argument (church history is at best a norma normata and not a norma normans).
Baucham also states that God (reveled in Scipture) is the standard of beauty. So beauty and the arts are not, in the absolute, suggestive, but objective.
If they were subjective — strictly a matter of taste and feeling — it would make them esoteric and occult, something incompatible with Christianity.
This leaves us to the task of determining, from Scipture, wether postmodern music (rap, hip-hop, pop, rock, metal, punk, etc.) is objectively beautiful by God's standard. Intuitively, I would answer no, but that is not enough...
